Job Description

District Court Staff Attorney, Senior Staff Attorney, and Career Attorney positions conduct legal research activities for a judge of a District Court of Appeal.

Education and Training Guidelines

Graduation from an accredited law school/Florida Bar.

Senior level requires two years Florida Bar membership; and

Two years’ experience as a Staff Attorney, two years practice of law, or a combination of experience as a Staff Attorney and in the practice of law.

Experience in the practice of law must be subsequent to admission to the Florida Bar.

Career level requires five years of experience and Florida Bar membership.

*SALARY RANGE is dependent on level of experience and Florida Bar membership.

Competencies

Outstanding analytical, research, and writing skills are required.

For each case, will be expected to analyze the legal and factual issues presented, perform independent legal research to confirm what legal principles govern, and by applying those principles, set-forth an objective, unbiased conclusion.

Must be able to write legal memoranda in a clear, organized fashion to inform the court about the issues, arguments, and controlling law.

 Must have a firm grasp of basic legal principles with the ability to expand current base of legal knowledge into many different areas.

Must have completed  core classes, including evidence, with high marks.

Will be expected to have expertise in proofreading and citation formatting.

All work will be done impartially, confidentially, promptly, and professionally.

Must be able to work effectively with others, which includes the ability to accept and provide constructive input.

Special Comments

FLSA status of this position is Personal Staff.

Remote or hybrid work may be an option.

Full time position for a term one to two years.
